[COVERED] KPOP Republic 2013 in Manila (Philippines)


Last Saturday, 2013 September 7th ㅡ The one-night music extravaganza by 3 of the hottest Korean acts on one stage, entitled – “K-Pop Republic” held at Smart Araneta Coliseum. An impressive lineup – SHINee, EXO-K, DalShabet and Crispi Crunch with Soomin (April Kiss).

Emcees for K-Pop Republic were Christian Bautista and model Jinri Park.


The South Korean’s electronic hip-hop duo Crispi Crunch, consisting of leader CSP and Lil’ Cheezy and Soomin of the girl group April Kiss were the opening acts of the show. They hyped up the crowd with great performances including “Thumbs Up“, “Sajangnim Nice Shot“, “ODL (One day life)” and Soomin also had her chance to charm the audience with her solo by singing her own cover of Nina’s “If I Should Love Again.”their own version of Psy’s massive hit; “Gangnam Style“, and had the whole stadium singing along.


Dal★Shabet the six-member girl group comprising Serri, Ah Young, Jiyul, Woohee, GaEun and Subin; was the second to perform. Dal★Shabet performed a total of five songs, they began with “Have, Don’t Have,” followed by “내 다리를 봐 (Be Ambitious)“, their latest successful hit single! “Mr. Bang, Bang,” “Bling Bling” and “Supa Dupa Diva.” They had a lot of interaction with the fans in between their performances and also showed their own version of “Gwiyomi.” Before the girls ended their last song with “Supa Dupa Diva,” Ji Yul said: ‘We have some presents for you.’ and gave away bunny-like stuffed toys to the lucky fans at the standing pit section.

Next up was EXO-K, the crowd went ecstatic as the 6 boys Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, D.O, Kai, and Sehun performed “Wolf“, the title track of EXO’s first studio album ‘XOXO (Kisses&Hugs)’ that was released on the 3rd of June and “History” from their mini debut album ‘MAMA‘. After the powerful dance performance, they kept the audience mesmerized with romantic melodies “XOXO” and “365.” While singing, all of them interacted with the fans and tossed dog stuffed toys to the crowd.

and Chanyeol added on “Yeah, me too!” “지금부터(from now on) only English.”
“Philippines fans is good!”, “Excellent! Amazing!”, “You know what am i saying~”, “Unbelievable!” and lastly EXO’s lead dancer Kai ended with “I love you.” – This was how their small english conversation went and the crowd screamed with delight and excitement.
Baekhyun who’s in charge of eyeliner in EXO, also reprised some lines from “Hawak Kamay” a Filipino song they performed during their first visit at Dream K-Pop Fantasy Concert held in last January 19th @ SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds, Pasay City. The boys never fails to leave the crowd impressed.
EXO-K’s last song was “Growl“, their latest successful track which grabbed 14th first place trophies from various music programs!


Last but not least, here comes the long-anticipated return of the five shining members; SHINee as the closing act of the show! Despite the absence of SHINee’s flaming charisma Choi Minho, the other 4 members still managed to capture the crowd with their powerful dance skills and amazing vocals.

The songs they performed were: “Dream Girl” – the title track of SHINee’s third full-length album Chapter 1 ‘The Misconceptions of You‘, “Lucifer”, “Stranger” and “아름다워 (Beautiful).”


The shining boys wrapped up the amazing night with “Why so serious” – the title track of SHINee’s newest album Chapter 2 ‘The Misconceptions of Me‘ and brought the whole stadium to a even higher heat!
